In 1985, a group of 17 individuals in Austin, Texas, felt a divine calling to establish a new church that combined traditional and innovative ministry approaches. Their vision materialized on January 5, 1986, with the inaugural service of Hill Country Bible Church, attended by 75 people at a local elementary school.
As the congregation expanded, the church moved to a rental space affectionately known as “The Church Behind the Dairy Queen.” In 1989, Tim Hawks became the Lead Pastor, bringing visionary leadership that propelled the church’s growth. Under his guidance, the church articulated its mission: “Each of us, together… saturating greater Austin with the love of Jesus.”
To accommodate its growing community, Hill Country Bible Church acquired 30 acres of land in the early 1990s and constructed its first Worship Center, Building B. The church’s commitment to financial stewardship enabled it to remain debt-free, allowing more resources to be invested in people.
In 1992, the church founded the Association of Hill Country Churches, aiming to plant 10 churches in the Austin area within 20 years. This initiative led to the creation of 26 churches to date, significantly expanding the church’s reach.
